I purchased this book from @bookofthemonth to read. All opinions are my own. πππππ American Dirt by Jeanine Cummins. There was so much controversy about this book on Instagram a while back so of course, I had to know. If a book is good enough to gain bad publicity then I have to read it to find out why. I didn’t find anything wrong with the book. It is written well. The book begins with the cartel murdering an entire family leaving only two survivors. Those two survivors strive to get out of reach of the cartel and that means leaving Acapulco and heading North. The road is filled with adventure and miscreants and rough times especially for a mother trying to get her only surviving child, an eight year old boy, to safety. The characters are likeable and you become invested in their future quickly.
