@kidlitexchange #partner π Thank you to #kidlitexchange for sharing the review copy of this book Love Hate and Other Filters by Samira Ahmed. All opinions are my own. πππππMaya Aziz is a high school senior struggling with typical teenage independence issues. Her family is Muslim, not devout, strict Muslim, but Muslim. Her parents came to America against wishes of their families but the struggle resulted in a successful family dentist office in Batavia Illinois. Maya’s mother expects her to follow her culture and expects her to marry an nice Indian boy, but Maya’s heart wants different things. Maya crushes on an American not Muslim boy, Phil, who leads her to heartbreak. Her parents want her to go to community college and stay home, Maya wants to go to NYU film school. Just when Maya thinks the world couldn’t get worse and life couldn’t get harder, a terrorist attack in a nearby town upsets Maya’s already turmoiled world even worse. Maya’s friends show their true colors and her parents’ rules become worse than smothering and the choices Maya makes will effect her future in ways no one would expect. βοΈβοΈβοΈβοΈβοΈReview also posted on Instagram @jasonnstacie, Library Thing, Goodreads/StacieBoren, Go Read, Amazon, and Twitter @jason_stacie.
